To be able to fully focus in the final phase, I go into 'my bubble' 🫧 The closer the tournament gets, the more I want to focus on that one task: gymnastics🤸 ♀️
This may sound logical, but it is really a choice that I have to comply with. For me, it is necessary to be able to perform well at the final tournament. About 3 months before the tournament, I go into my bubble. This is how I prepare for that one moment:
📅 No extra appointments
Normally, I have regular appointments outside of my workouts. Sometimes appointments with sponsors, recording videos, giving interviews or giving a presentation. The last 3 months before the tournament I don't schedule it anymore.
😌 Moments of rest and visualisations
I always take all my moments of rest. I take a 20-minute power nap every day between my workouts. In the run-up to a tournament, I add visualizations. By visualizing my perfect exercises and then taking the power nap, I imprint them well in the brain.
💪 The ultimate preparation in Paris
This year I have made the choice to spend a lot of time around Paris in the last few months. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to train at the Olympic accommodation. Still, it has a lot of value to me. I have been training since the beginning of May at the National Training Centre INSEP of France 🇫🇷. In addition, it literally gives me a (topographical) threshold to get into my bubble. I can fully focus on gymnastics here.
For me, 'the bubble' works well. I'm someone who can't be distracted by activities that don't have to do with that one goal. It works differently for everyone, I realize that. It took me a while to figure out what works for me. In addition, it is a challenge to keep the focus right. Fortunately, I have people, but also sponsor partners, around me who support me in this! 🙏
